SCL Technical College Named One of Fastest Growing in the Nation
BATON ROUGE, La. - Enrollment at colleges within the Louisiana Community and Technical System (LCTCS) continue to increase at a rapid pace. As a matter of fact, six colleges within the system were recently named as the nation's "Fastest growing two-year public institutions" in a special report by Community College Week, a publication that calls itself "the independent voice covering community, technical and junior colleges."
The results were reported in the annual "Special Report: Fastest Growing Community Colleges" in the November 29, 2010 issue. The article named the top 50 fastest growing public two-year colleges in four categories ranging from "fewer than 2,500 students" to "10,000 or more students." The results were based on data collected between fall 2008 and fall 2009.
The six colleges making the ranks this year include: Bossier Parish Community College, Delgado Community College, L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College, Northshore Technical College, Northwest Louisiana Technical College, and South Central Louisiana Technical College.
"As this special report indicates, our community and technical colleges are growing are at a very rapid pace, and our services and educational offerings are needed more today than ever," said LCTCS President Dr. Joe D. May. "Our 16 colleges enrolled more 73,000 students this fall and they are working diligently to ensure that the citizens of Louisiana are getting a first-class education to help address our state's workforce needs."
South Central Louisiana Technical College fell under the category of enrollment between 2,500 and 4,999 students and was named the 26th fastest growing two-year college with a 24 percent increase from 2,354 students in fall 2008 to 2,914 students in fall 2009. The Director of SCLTC is Greg Garrett. The South Central sites include: Young Memorial Campus, River Parishes Campus, Lafourche Campus, Marine Service Center, and Galliano Campus.
